General Notes: Henry became claimant to the Earldom of Orkney sometime before 1358 when Malise Strathearn died. He succeeded his father as Lord of Roslin. In 1369 Henry travelled to Norway for confirmation which was granted in 1370. In 1379 he returned to Norway and on 2 Aug 1379 was created Earl of Orkney.

In 1388 he fought at Otterburn and was present in 1389 at the public assembly which confirmed Eric of Pomerania as true heir to Norway. In 1391 he subdued subdued the Faroe Islands and killed Malise Spar (his cousin and rival). In 1391/2 he had a safe conduct from Richard II till Michaelmas. In 1396 Sir John Drummond and his wife Elizabeth, Henry's daughter, renounced any claim to his lands.

He died about 1400 in mysterious circumstances, possibly during the attack by Sir Robert Logan against the Orkneys, which occured in 1400 and was misdated by Roland St. Clair as 1404; or possibly in the "New World". Given the lack of any monument or otherwise, the latter seems most likely.
