Innes, Maxwell & Ninian
Innes, Maxwell & Ninian appear down through the generations of the Patton Family, but where did they come from ?
William Paton married Annie Sinclair in 1790 on the Orkney Islands. Annie was the daughter of John Sinclair & Barbara Maxwell. Both of William & Annie’s son, John Dunn named his son Robert Maxwell Patton.
We then see Innes appear in the descendants of Charles Douglas Patton & Caroline Mary Alice Scott. This is obviously in acknowledgement of the Scott Family line. Some of the descendants even had Scott as a second name. Captain John Scott (1764-1805) who died on the 21 October 1805 onboard the HMS Victory during the Battle of Trafalgar, whilst standing next to Horatio Nelson, was the son of John Scott & Margaret Innes.
John & his wife Charlotte named their first born Alexander Innes Scott. Out family descends from their second son John Francis Scott (1796-1854). Francis John Scott Patton (1886-1970) was named after his great-grandfather.
I believe that Ninian descends from William Patton’s, (who married Annie Sinclair), Grandfather. I currently have John Paton married Elizabeth Anderson. Elizabeth’s father was Ninian Anderson. Ninian is a very strong name down through our family, Charles Ninian, Ninian Purves, Robert Ninian.
