HESS.-In sad and loving remembrance of my dear
husband, Frederick Hess, who departed this life
on the 25th September, 1902, at 65 Lee-street,
North Carlton.
Cold lies the heart that once beat so fondly,
Oh, how we miss his fond, loving care,
Lone in our home that once was so happy,
For no loving husband is there.
Thou are nor forgotten, dearest husband or wilt
thou ever be;
As long as life and memory lats I will remember
thee.
-(Inserted by his loving widow, M. A. Hess.)
With patience great he bore his pain,
That suffered him to die;
And those that loved him here on earth
Will meet him bye and bye.
-(Inserted by his loving son, Frederick Hess,
and grandsons, John and Thomas Lennox

HESS.-In loving remembrance of my dear husband,
Frederick Hess, who departed this life on the 25th
September, 1902, at 65 Lee-street, North Carlton.
I loved him,. and no tongue can tell
How much I loved him, and how well;
But God alone, Who knoweth best,
Did take my husband home to rest.
My heart still yearns for thee,
And thoughts will always stray
To that sad and lonely grave
Where my dear husband lay.

Pleasant was he in life throughout,
A favourite with us all;
Peaceful he sleeps within the arms
Of Him who died for all.

From an article in the publication, Table Talk on Thursday 9th October, 1902
On Sunday last.in the Orchestra practice room of the Deutscher Turn Verein, reference was made to the lamented death of a professional musician, the late Mr. Frederick Hess, senior.
He was born in Esweiler, Bavaria, Germany in 1842, and arrived in Victoria 1858. He soon obtained employment, and was for many years conductor of the band when the Waxworks Exhibition was under the control of the late Madame Sohier.

He eventually became a fixture in Melbourne, and of late years was principal Clarionet in all the leading Theatres, the Melbourne and Metropolitan Liedertafels, Philharmonic Society, Exhibition Orchestra, and the late Head Quarters Band, under the conductorship of the late Mr. Johnston, and the present Mr. Julius Siede.
Mr. Hess was also a member of Melbourne Dentscher Turn Verein for many years; and his last appearance, was on Sunday, September 21| when he seemed, to be in his usual state of health. Four days after pneumonia claimed him, and his death at the age of 60 came as a great shook upon the musical community.
On the motion of Mr.. St. John . Caws, seconded by Mr.- H. Weinberg, his memory was drunk. in silence, and a message of condolence sent through his son Mr. F. Hess to the surviving widow, sons, daughters, and relatives.
