The cause of his death was Cancer of the larynx (throat cancer).

Robert (known as Bert) used to cart timber for Farrell's timber mill
(cnr Beaton St & Euroa-Shepparton Rd). Some of this timber was carted
to Melbourne as "House Lots" using a Log Jinker.

The following is taken from Les' obituary in the Euroa Gazette, dated 19 May 1987.

Mr. Leslie Allan Harrison
A man who virtually commenced his long football career in Euroa's 1946 E.D.F.A. premiership team just after he was discharged from the Army after World War 2, died on May 1 after a long illness.

He was Mr. Leslie Harrison, aged 61 years of Cudgewa, who was born and educated at Euroa. His grandfather, the late George Harrison was claimed to be the first white child born in Euroa around the time the town was first surveyed in 1850.

Les was a son of the late George and Myrtle Harrison (nee Sheargold), other members of that family being - Dick (decd), Bert, Carol (Mrs. Welsh), George and Jim (decd). Les was the third youngest.

He married Miss Betty Hamilton of Cudgewa North, and they had three daughters, Marlene, Jennifer and Robyn, the latter two being twins. Sympathy is extended to them and other relatives, including his brother George, of Euroa.

After he left school Les worked for the late Syd Ellis at his Euroa Beehive Stores near the North-Eastern Hotel, and later at Mr. Ed. Houston's grocery shop.

After being in the Army for a short time he returned to Euroa and worked in the timber industry.

In that post-War period the family moved to Cudgewa North where they took up farming. Later Les worked for many years for the Shire of Corryong.

He was a tall man and was a good all-round athlete, being a successful runner. He played for a considerable number of years, being captain of the team for some years and winning the team's best and fairest award on three occasions.

It is of interest to note the names of those who played with Les in Euroa's 1946 premiership team. They were: B.Dargaval (c), C.Halsall (v.c.), F.Beggs (coach), A.Fishenden, L.Ferguson, C.Walker, S & K Lister, T.Peel, Art Frost, M.Webb, J.McGill, B.Nolan, B.Burton, D.Bamford, J.Ahern, R. Wilson, B.Paige, A.McKernan.
Les was a well-liked man and he leaves a wide circle of friends and acquaintances who deeply regret his passing.

The funeral cortege moved to the Corryong Lawn Cemetery following a service at the Uniting Church. The coffin-bearers were Messrs. George Harrison (brother), Allan Harrison (nephew), Ken Chitty, Reubon (boy) Hamilton, Terry Coish and Peter Carkeet.

James was accidently killed when hit by a car whilst riding his
bicycle near the corner of Campbell St. and the Hume Highway (near the
High School) in Euroa.

Long time no type and I hope you're well.
You might already know all this but just in case?
I've just received a DNA hit (you too maybe?) from the recently deceased Myrtle Margaret Primmer nee Sheargold b: 6 Sep 1937 and d: 12 May 2021.
In the process of working out why and how I match with her, I've discovered that she is the daughter William 'Big Bill' Stewart (Stuart on his birth and marriage records) Sheargold.
I went to your most excellent website and I noticed under his entry that you have written:

>General Notes: Audrey appears as Audrey Sheargold until such time as her maiden name can be ascertained.
When I went digging around the Victoria BDM site I found that William Stuart Sheargold married Audrey Merle Eastman in Victoria in 1937.
Audrey Merle Eastman was born 1920 in Ballarat to Ivy Parsons and Aubrey Russell Eastman.
Australian Aubrey Russell Eastman married English Ivy Parsons while he was serving overseas in the Australian Imperial Forces during WWII.
They married in London 5 Oct 1918.
Audrey Sheargold nee Eastman did a runner with their daughter Myrtle and disappeared off the map but a reference to her death on Myrtle's DNA profile suggest that she died year unknown, Frankston, Victoria,
so I guess that's secret family word of mouth information?
I've attached all the records that lead me to all of this and I think it's pretty cool that it's come to light now, just after you posted this very recently:
